Elect Peter Greenwald for Congress
On November 6, 2018, I was present at Congressman Dave Brat's post-election party and sadly watched as Abigail Spanberger narrowly defeated our great Congressman and Republicans lost their majority in the House of Representatives. Since that night, I have considered another run for Congress, recalling in 2013 that my wife Anne and I launched a grassroots campaign from our kitchen table in Midlothian to “primary” Eric Cantor. As House Majority leader he had failed to lead and take decisive action to address the debt, illegal immigration, and taxpayer funding of abortion. On the filing deadline in March 2014, I stepped aside and endorsed Dave. Together as part of a grassroots movement then, we harnessed our energies and defeated Representative Cantor.
I was there then in 2014 and I am here now as we face an even greater challenge in 2020. The challenge before us could not be more real or clear. Now more than ever we must stop the cultural and political assault by the so-called Progressives on the Commonwealth and America, an assault that denies God and our God-given rights.
The call put forth by President Lincoln in 1863 during great political upheaval echoes across the centuries to us today, “Let us here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom,” a call today to restore our constitutional republic of the people, by the people, and for the people and an end to government of the state, by the state and for the state.
Often overshadowed by the Constitution ratified in 1787, Abraham Lincoln pointed to the Declaration of Independence addressed to the world more than a decade earlier. In answering the call, we must work together to reveal socialism for the evil that it is and remind every citizen of Madison and Jefferson’s ideals of true republicanism. The words “endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” must be preserved for every generation of Americans.
Through our campaign for “A new birth of freedom” we can come together once again through shared sacrifice as we did in 2014 and win back the 7th district seat in Virginia. I am confident we can help President Trump flip the House in 2020 with a victory. President Trump has stated at his rallies “America will never be a socialist nation.” But Virginians must once again answer the call. We must pledge our lives, our fortunes and sacred honor for the glorious cause of freedom.
My name is Peter Greenwald, Candidate for Congress of Virginia's 7th District.
